Words for the Deceased

The death beat.

Oct 16
Another “Jane Doe” found by the CPD down at Hopkins University. Cause of death was spray paint, cardboard stencil and one stroke of whitish oil paint. She was in the hospital for 9 hours. The crime scene was littered with confusing evidence of a struggle and a mass of octopi. Other evidence suggests that she was recently married, though any family have yet to be found. Police are currently applying all available manpower to the investigation.

A close friend of many, “Finger Me” passed recently due to medical complications. The family had no health insurance due to an error in paperwork and “Finger Me” didn’t want to pay costly emergency room fees; thus what seemed like a minor injury proved fatal. The deceased life was full of latex gloves, oil paint on canvas and many life affirming stories. The family said during an interview yesterday that this was “a tragedy of bureaucracy meeting mediocrity.”

John Doe, found early one day by the CPD in Hopkins Hall at the Ohio State University. Cause of death was oil paint on handcrafted wood panel. Initial reports suggested watercolor as the mode of departure but upon closer forensic inspection this was proven false. Forensics also indicated that he may have been started as an abstract process but ended as an expressionist representation.

“Urban Collapse” was one of six children of the “Warehouse” series photographs. Very little was known about him outside of this photograph and kind words from the local street artists. His home was soon after demolished by the city in a move to revitalize the neighborhood with new construction. A long time resident of Columbus Ohio he will be missed.

Isaiah 11:6, a local drawing was found yesterday in what has been described by authorities as a possible murder/suicide. Police and Federal agents released the following details: the body was adorned in gold and glass while traces of charcoal, ink, silver leaf and oil paint were found in it’s system. They state that it is an open investigation and they do have suspects. Friends and family are speculative that a small religious group may ultimately be responsible, even if the death is ruled a suicide. Stay tuned to Channel 5 for more details as this story develops throughout the day.

Columbus Ohio Police Department March 7, 2006
Case # 68753F
Evidence File # B-0069-82348
Summary: Body identified as “Rant:Volume One”; Only the victims fingerprints were found; Cause of death were massive lacerations through the abdomen with photoshop and 9 hours of rotating text word by word; Thirteen copies of apparent suicide note were found on the corpse; The note read as follows:

everyone looks into the future. some have the clarity of truth, some have blind prescriptions. my eyes have layers of blood soaked gauze; tainted and signified by the pain of hope. casting over my vision a sight of a world i wish to see, i continue to reach for reasons the world will blossom into something as bright as my sincere revelry. my desires wane when the bandages are removed. i do not wish for anarchy or the collapse of human society. ambitions of shared communities and collective happiness imbue my actions, yet there is still an enemy harsh and scathing; holding down those who deserve breath underneath their ocean of politics. so i search for a way to fight without my hands, through words and art. my loss is a lesson learned from generations of ancestors. i am drowned without realizations or reality and left to float downstream. the framework of human society seems simple: girders built on individuals on families on communities on countries. as if we could consider the problem and give three words to solve its riddle, but its not black and white, nor shades of gray, or colors on a wheel; but the entire invisible spectrum, life is everything in and outside the building. humanity destroys the last tower before building the other. i feel cold, shaking, outside waiting for the new. even the faithful admit god has abandoned us for today. terror grips one culture, rage and fear another. babies are killing mothers and the rich wage wars against the poor. people give themselves cancer and laws are passed against committing suicide. tremble, quake and fear: the world is coming to an end! here comes the sun from the spinning world for yet another twenty-four. apparent and insistent the suffering of our fellow human stares at us. we hear the anguished cries of our friends and join the tumultuous shouting people acknowledge the wounds inflicted by life and speak of change battles of policy and bureaucracy bring progress to an infant’s pace and voices are muffled by indifference and procrastination we can no longer speak of peace without actions, faith alone will not support the future
